16 members to be selected for permanent working committee of political parties' alliance

Lt. Gen. Hla Hpyay, Chairman of the National Unity and Peacebuilding Coordination Committee, stated that 16 members will be selected for the permanent working committee of the political parties' alliance to move forward with peace dialogues with the National Unity and Peacebuilding Coordination Committee. This was stated during a meeting with representatives of the political parties' alliance on September 17 at Office No. 20, National Unity and Peacebuilding Central Headquarters in Naypyidaw. He said that political parties represent the people and will continue to discuss the previously agreed-upon discussion points. He requested that political parties discuss ways to coordinate and facilitate armed groups to enter the legal framework, and ways that political parties can assist ethnic armed groups that have deviated from the peace process for various reasons after signing the NCA to return to the path of peace. He also requested discussions on the conditions for conflict-affected regions to return to their previous state, and for political parties in the regions where ethnic armed groups reside to discuss ways they can work for peace. He also stated that he wants to have open discussions with political parties on constitutional matters, peace-related issues, and the return of displaced persons from conflict-affected regions, which were previously discussed. The meeting was attended by Lt. Gen. Hla Hpyay, Chairman of the National Unity and Peacebuilding Coordination Committee, members of the coordination committee, members of the Union Election Commission, chairmen, vice-chairmen, general secretaries, central executive committee members, and responsible officials from 32 political parties in the political parties' alliance. The second day of the discussions is scheduled to continue on September 18.
