Chanthaburi, Thailand, Implements CCTV System for Flood Monitoring After Heavy Rains

Chanthaburi Province in eastern Thailand has launched a 24-hour real-time CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) monitoring system for river water levels as a measure to ensure resident safety and mitigate damage following recent heavy rainfall. The system aims to constantly monitor water levels through cameras installed on major rivers and canals within the province. This will enable early detection of signs of rapid water level rises or river overflow, facilitating prompt information dissemination to relevant authorities. Chanthaburi is an area frequently affected by floods and landslides, particularly during the rainy season. The implementation of this system is also positioned as part of the response to extreme weather events driven by climate change. Based on the real-time information obtained through this system, provincial authorities plan to issue early evacuation advisories and warnings to residents in areas expected to experience flooding or river overflow, aiming to minimize loss of life and property damage.
