Military vehicle overturns on Asia Road towards Myawaddy, 2 dead and over 10 injured

Ayeyarwaddy Times July 22 A military vehicle from the interim government's 22nd Division, which was en route to a front-line troop rotation, overturned on the Asia Road south of Myawaddy town in Kayin State, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and injuries to over ten others, according to local social welfare organizations. Among the military vehicles, eight in total, that were heading towards the 275th Light Infantry Regiment based in Myawaddy for troop rotation, one vehicle overturned off the roadside on the descent of the Kunthitaw curve on the Asia Road between Sanghaninein and Myawaddy around 12 PM on July 18. "One of the eight military vehicles overturned on the descent of the Kunthitaw road. It happened around 12 PM. Rescue vehicles from Myawaddy and Sanghaninein were dispatched to assist. Two soldiers died, and about ten were injured. The overturned military vehicle was also pulled out by a crane truck," a member of a local social welfare organization told the Ayeyarwaddy Times. According to military sources, the convoy that overturned consisted of troops under the 22nd Division, who were advancing to replace the 55th Division troops that had suffered casualties in the Phalu and Minlappun areas in southern Myawaddy. The military has been using this route to regain control of the Myawaddy-Kawkareik Asia Road and to deliver reinforcements and supplies to the front lines, but has now encountered such vehicle overturning accidents resulting in casualties.
