East Java to Host Mass Handover of 71,000 Homes; President Prabowo to Attend

The People's Housing Savings Management Agency (BP Tapera) in conjunction with the Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning (PKP) is gearing up for a significant event: a mass handover and contract signing ceremony for 71,000 units of housing financed through the Home Ownership Loan (KPR) Liquidity Facility for Housing Financing (FLPP) scheme. This large-scale initiative is slated to take place in East Java on December 17, 2026. Minister of PKP, Maruarar Sirait, commonly known as Ara, has indicated that President Prabowo Subianto is slated to attend this pivotal event. His presence is intended to underscore the government's dedication to expediting the provision of adequate and affordable housing for the low-income community (MBR). Sirait conveyed this information during a performance evaluation and strategy meeting concerning the distribution of subsidized housing, which was held at the BP Tapera office in Jakarta on Monday, September 21, 2026. "Today's agenda is number one we are preparing for December 17 in East Java. We have invited the President to attend the mass akad of 71,000 subsidized houses with the FLPP scheme," Sirait stated. He further elaborated that the preparatory stages for this ambitious undertaking are currently being refined. The government is expected to finalize the selection of the specific housing units that will be featured in the ceremony by October 2026. The evaluation process for these houses will be comprehensive, considering various crucial aspects beyond just the sheer number of units constructed. These include the quality of the construction, the availability and state of essential infrastructure, adherence to all applicable regulations, and ultimately, the level of customer satisfaction among the intended occupants. "In October we decided which was fair. The measure is the quality of the house, then also the infrastructure, compliance with the rules and customer satisfaction," Sirait explained. He also highlighted the importance of assessing consumer satisfaction, urging the relevant teams to ensure the condition of the houses and the overall experience of the communities who have already occupied subsidized housing. The plan to facilitate the provision of 71,000 subsidized houses is in direct alignment with the government's overarching objective to broaden access to decent housing and to systematically reduce the nation's housing backlog, with a particular emphasis on serving the low-income demographic. Reflecting on his tenure as Minister of PKP, which has spanned nearly two years, Sirait affirmed that he has consistently prioritized the provision of housing for MBR. He expressed optimism regarding the progress made in tackling the housing backlog issue, citing data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). According to BPS data released as of March 2026, there has been a notable decrease in the number of uninhabitable houses and families who lack proper housing. "Because our backlog has been reduced as reported by BPS, you can see the data alone that BPS has conveyed, namely uninhabitable houses have also decreased. I am sure that when it is released again, the achievement will definitely increase," he explained. With the meticulous preparation underway for the mass contract signing of 71,000 subsidized houses in East Java, the government anticipates that the FLPP program will continue to effectively enhance access to adequate housing for low-income citizens and significantly contribute to efforts aimed at mitigating the housing deficit in Indonesia.
