Marcos Jr. Orders Urgent Repair of Marahan Road After Landslip

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the urgent repair of the road at Purok 39, Sitio Marahan, Marilog Proper, Davao City, following a road slip that occurred on Friday evening last week. Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon revealed this during an interview with reporters on Thursday morning while inspecting the affected area. Dizon stated that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is pursuing both temporary and long-term solutions. Slope protection will be implemented on both sides of the road. However, a more permanent solution for the road across Marahan will require proper design and soil investigation, which will take considerable time. The immediate focus is on temporary measures to ensure the road's usability as soon as possible. According to the DPWH official Facebook page, the repair aims to address delays in the transport of passengers and goods across this vital artery connecting Davao and Bukidnon. Road works could commence as early as Monday. Meanwhile, the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has cautioned against the use of the Davao-Bukidnon Road-Datu Ladayon-Katipunan-Campo Uno route, as the path can become muddy during heavy rains. Drivers of heavy vehicles are advised to seek safer alternate routes, such as via Maramag – Carmen – Kabacan – Digos – Davao. The road slip was caused by heavy rains from a thunderstorm, the agency said. MindaNews observed that the last house precariously perched on the cliff by the road had already collapsed, and the slip appeared to have widened since the incident on July 17. Movement in the area was temporarily halted for at least an hour due to soil inspections conducted by the DPWH and Secretary Dizon's visit.
