Cambodian PM Meets Chinese President for Bilateral Talks

The Prime Minister of Cambodia met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the afternoon of Friday, July 17, 2026, for discussions and cooperation on mutual interests. This meeting aimed to deepen bilateral relations and jointly address economic and regional challenges. During the talks, the expansion of cooperation, particularly in the economic sphere, was emphasized. Cambodia is seeking increased investment from China, especially in infrastructure development projects. This includes improvements in transportation networks and investments in the energy sector. Strengthening trade relations was also a topic of discussion, likely covering enhanced access for Cambodian products to the Chinese market and further introduction of Chinese goods into Cambodia. Regarding regional affairs, opinions were exchanged on cooperation between the two countries for maintaining stability and peace in Southeast Asia. China, while expanding its influence in the region, values its relationship with Cambodia, and the Cambodian government views cooperation with China as key to its economic development.
