Vietnam: 866 Social Housing Projects Underway, Rental Housing Policies Proposed

Vietnam is currently developing 866 social housing projects across the country, advancing efforts to secure housing for its citizens. In addition to these projects, new policies are being proposed to expand the supply of rental housing, which are expected to broaden housing options for those seeking residences. However, the development of rental housing continues to face numerous challenges. According to the Ministry of Construction, these include long investment recovery periods, a shortage of suitable land for development, high operating costs, and issues with tenant stability. To address these challenges, policies including new preferential measures are being proposed. The aim is to promote the improvement of the legal framework, boost the development of the rental housing market, and gradually correct the supply-demand balance. As Vietnam experiences economic growth and increasing urbanization, housing demand continues to rise. Securing affordable and quality housing remains a significant challenge, particularly for lower-income groups and young people.
