Cambodian King Urges National Unity to Support Government in Border Defense
Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni has called for national unity to support the government in defending sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peacefully resolving border issues. The King also encouraged citizens, especially youth, to fulfill their military duty obligations and contribute to national defense and construction.
His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia, in a royal message delivered on July 1 during the opening of the sixth session of the seventh legislature of the National Assembly, strongly urged all Cambodian citizens, both domestically and abroad, to unite and provide unwavering support to the Royal Government in defending the nation's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and in peacefully resolving border issues. The King's message emphasized the importance of national unity, stating, "I appeal to all compatriots, both inside and outside the country, to continue to unite as one great Khmer family, with a spirit of sincere patriotism, to fully trust and support the Royal Government in defending sovereignty and territorial integrity, and in resolving border issues peacefully based on international law principles." He further stressed the need to continue reforming and modernizing state institutions with the people at the core, to further develop and advance the homeland. Furthermore, His Majesty encouraged all Cambodian citizens, especially the youth, to participate in implementing the Law on Military Duty, aiming to jointly defend and build a stronger and more resilient nation. The King also noted that National Assembly members have engaged directly with citizens, studying and understanding their concerns, needs, and challenges. These efforts, he highlighted, have actively contributed to fostering the spirit of unity as a great Khmer family and national solidarity, through supporting and encouraging front-line national defense forces and refugees in border provinces.
