Thailand Boosts Solar Rooftop Standards with MEA, PEA Collaboration

The Deputy Minister of Interior of Thailand announced a policy to improve the installation standards for solar rooftops in collaboration with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA). As part of this initiative, a registration system for solar rooftop installers and related equipment will be introduced. The aim is to ensure public confidence and standardize quality, enabling ordinary citizens to adopt solar power systems with peace of mind. Specifically, the registration is expected to involve the assessment of installers' technical capabilities and past performance, as well as the safety and performance standards of the equipment used. Registered installers and equipment will be certified by the government, allowing consumers to make safer and more reliable choices. This registration system is part of the Thai government's policy to promote renewable energy adoption, and it is considered a crucial step to accelerate the spread of solar rooftops in residential and commercial buildings. This is expected to increase the share of solar power in the country's energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. By eliminating fraudulent businesses and substandard equipment, the healthy growth of the solar power market as a whole will be promoted.
