Vietnam is currently seeking to enhance its presence in the semiconductor industry amid global trends aimed at diversifying geopolitical risks and strengthening supply chain resilience. Particularly, as relations with China become more complex, major countries like the United States, Japan, and South Korea are accelerating efforts to diversify production bases outside of China, with Vietnam being one of the prime candidates. However, to gain competitiveness in the semiconductor industry, which requires advanced technology and massive investment, it is imperative to develop the entire ecosystem, including technology transfer, human resource development, and intellectual property protection, not just attract factories. Dr. Thang cited Taiwan's history of building a robust ecosystem, from semiconductor design, manufacturing, testing, packaging, to the equipment industry, through decades of effort. He stressed the importance of Vietnam learning from this Taiwanese experience and gradually building its ecosystem while leveraging its own strengths. Specifically, an approach of first accumulating achievements in manufacturing and packaging, then advancing into design and R&D, is considered realistic. Strengthening the training of talented personnel and enhancing cooperation with international research institutions and companies will also be essential. The Vietnamese government has positioned the semiconductor industry as a national strategy and is expanding investment incentives and human resource development programs. However, to further deepen Vietnam's role in the global semiconductor supply chain, continuous efforts by both the public and private sectors, along with enhanced cooperation with the international community, are required.
