Vietnam's Top Leader Emphasizes US-Vietnam Ties in FPA Policy Speech

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, delivered a policy speech at the Foreign Policy Association (FPA) in New York on the morning of September 22 (local time). This was part of his trip to attend the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) and conduct bilateral activities in the US. In his speech, General Secretary Trong elaborated on Vietnam's stance and future prospects for the development of US-Vietnam relations. Vietnam, while maintaining its one-party system, emphasizes economic growth and cooperation with the international community. In particular, strengthening relations with the United States is considered indispensable for economic development and maintaining regional stability. This visit comes as Vietnam has achieved rapid economic growth in recent years and increased its influence in the international community. Especially amid complex relations with China, building strategic relations with the United States holds an important position in Vietnam's foreign policy. General Secretary Trong appealed for the importance of economic cooperation, security, and coordination on regional issues between the two countries. While maintaining its system as a socialist republic, Vietnam has introduced a market economy and actively attracted foreign investment. This "Doi Moi" (renovation) policy has brought remarkable economic growth, but it has also created challenges such as social disparities and environmental issues. This visit to the United States can be seen as part of diplomatic efforts to solidify Vietnam's position in the international community while addressing such domestic challenges.
