Cambodia Bolsters Trust Services to Boost Investment and Economic Resilience

PHNOM PENH, Aug 4, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is expanding its trust services sector to draw investment, diversify its financial system and reinforce long‑term resilience, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth said Tuesday. Speaking at the 2026 Trust Forum, themed “Trust Services in the One‑Actor Ecosystem and Five Years of Achievements,” Pornmoniroth said the industry had become a key pillar of the non‑banking financial sector, underpinning investor confidence, asset protection and sustainable growth. He noted Cambodia had maintained macroeconomic stability despite global uncertainty, while reforms continued to strengthen both banking and non‑banking services. Established in 2021 under the Non‑Bank Financial Services Authority, the Trust Regulator has built a legal framework promoting transparency, investor protection and compliance with international standards. Over five years, nearly 2,000 trust arrangements have been registered with assets worth about US$2.7 billion, reflecting growing confidence in the sector’s role in investment, wealth management and business activity. Pornmoniroth said trust services would increasingly channel investment into priority sectors, support SMEs and expand financing beyond traditional banking. He urged regulators and industry players to strengthen governance, improve compliance, invest in human capital, diversify products beyond real estate and accelerate digital transformation. Such efforts, he said, would help create a more diversified and resilient financial ecosystem while enhancing Cambodia’s competitiveness as an investment destination.
