Cambodia Ministry of Labor Intervenes in Selly Fashion Factory Labor Dispute
Cambodia's Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training intervened on September 11 to address unpaid wages and benefits at Selly Fashion Garment Factory after its owner absconded. The ministry aims to protect workers' rights through legal measures and secure assets for payment.
The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has ordered an urgent intervention for the Selly Fashion Garment Factory Co., Ltd., where the owner has absconded, leaving workers unpaid for wages and benefits. Ministry officials, in collaboration with local authorities, began seeking immediate solutions on September 11. The factory is located in the Suchov Cambodia Industrial Park along National Road 21, Prek Long Village, Roka Khpos Commune, Ta Khmau City, Kandal Province. According to Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, the ministry will take firm legal action to protect the rights and interests of the workers. "The Ministry understands the concerns of the workers, especially in situations where they do not receive their wages on time. However, the resolution must be carried out according to legal procedures. In such cases, the Ministry will sue the company in court to request a preservation order for assets, enabling the payment of wages and other benefits to the workers," Mesa stated. The Ministry is calling on the workers to remain calm and allow the relevant officials and authorities time to find a resolution. They are also urged to avoid any actions that could disrupt public order and violate the law. Source: CEN Cambodia
