Kompong Thom province's military forces have seized 34 logs of suspected illegally harvested luxury wood. While the perpetrators escaped, authorities are pursuing the investigation and demanding strict punishment, highlighting the persistent issue of forest crime in the region.

In the "Sun Gate" area of Mean Rit commune, Sre Snom district, Kompong Thom province, military forces have seized 34 logs of luxury wood suspected of being illegally harvested. However, the perpetrators managed to escape from the scene. According to Major General Som Son, Commander of the Kompong Thom Provincial Military Operations Area, the operation was conducted on the morning of September 9th. This followed information received about a group of perpetrators illegally transporting luxury wood using approximately 4 to 5 motorized oxcarts, passing through the "Sun Gate" area to further transport it for commercial purposes. Upon receiving this information, Maj. Gen. Som Son, also the permanent vice-chairman of the provincial commission for the prevention, suppression, and eradication of natural resource crimes, ordered his forces to crack down. However, before the forces reached the target, the perpetrators abandoned the wood and fled with their motorized oxcarts, leaving behind the 34 logs of luxury wood. The 34 logs have currently been handed over to the specialized authorities of the Tumring Forestry Administration Cantonment in Sre Snom district for further legal proceedings. Maj. Gen. Som Son has requested the Forestry Administration to investigate and identify the suspects involved in the illegal logging and transportation of this luxury wood, so they can be punished according to the law without exception. This group has been repeatedly engaged in such illegal activities in the past and continues to operate covertly to this day.
