Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Meets with Commune/Sangkat Council Representatives to Strengthen Cooperation for Resident Welfare

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace, Samdech Mahamontrey Kuy Sophal, met with the representatives of the Commune/Sangkat Councils of all 11 communes and sangkats in Boribo District, Kampong Chhnang Province, on September 12, 2026, at the Boribo District Hall. The meeting was attended by H.E. Siv Run, Chairman of the Provincial Council, H.E. Sun Sovannarith, Governor of Kampong Chhnang Province, leaders of relevant ministries and institutions, and commanders of the three armed forces. During the occasion, Samdech Mahamontrey Kuy Sophal emphasized the importance of understanding the well-being of the people to review, discuss, and approve the summary progress reports of the Commune/Sangkat Councils. He highlighted the establishment of an organization to represent and protect the common interests of the district, commune, and sangkat councils. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of life and well-being of the citizens through decentralization and deconcentration governance, as well as to develop capacity and increase the efficiency of service delivery to the people at the local level. Furthermore, Samdech Mahamontrey stated that under the leadership of the Royal Government, headed by Samdech Prime Minister Hun Manet, there is a recommendation to conduct regular and closer meetings with citizens at the grassroots level. The purpose is to understand their well-being, listen to their opinions, requests, and challenges. This also aims to help strengthen the implementation of the roles of Commune/Sangkat Councils, public service delivery, and local development work with high efficiency, for the benefit of all citizens, without political bias. In this context, Samdech Mahamontrey Kuy Sophal urged relevant officials to strive to perform their duties correctly and achieve excellent results continuously. He noted that the association for the operation of district, commune, and sangkat councils is an important mechanism for sub-national administrations to jointly voice their opinions and discuss with ministries and institutions of the Royal Government.
