Hanoi's Nguyen Trai Street Faces Traffic Restrictions Due to Drainage Project

A section of Nguyen Trai Street in Hanoi will be fenced off for the construction of a drainage system starting September 20, reducing the vehicle lane width to as little as 15 meters. The construction, part of the Ring Road 2.5 project, is scheduled to last until October 7 and is expected to cause significant traffic congestion. The Hanoi Department of Construction has approved a plan for traffic diversion and organization on Nguyen Trai Street, Thanh Xuan District, to facilitate the connection of drainage pipes for the Ring Road 2.5 project. The construction period is from September 20 to October 7. The connection of the D1000 drainage culvert towards Ha Dong will be carried out in three phases. The contractor will sequentially cordon off two lanes adjacent to the sidewalk, followed by the next two lanes, and then the two lanes closest to the central median. Each fenced-off section will be 40 meters long, leaving a 15-meter width for vehicle traffic. The contractor is only permitted to move to the next section after restoring the road surface at the completed site. Construction vehicles and equipment are allowed to operate outside the barrier only between 10 PM the previous day and 5 AM the next day. Before 5 AM, machinery and vehicles must be moved within the construction area to avoid impacting daytime traffic. Warning signs will be placed 200m, 100m and 50m away from the construction site, along with lights and reflective ropes. The investor and contractor are required to deploy personnel to coordinate with traffic police for traffic management in the construction zone. Ring Road 2.5 is a nearly 20km route passing through many densely populated areas of Hanoi. The planned road width is 40-50 meters with six lanes. The city is accelerating the construction of the remaining sections, with technical opening anticipated on October 10, coinciding with the anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day.
