Vietnam Red Cross Society Elects New President, Outlines Reform Agenda

The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) has re-elected Do Thi Thu Thao as its President for the 2026-2031 tenure. This decision signals the organization's commitment to comprehensive reforms aimed at enhancing the quality and efficiency of its humanitarian activities over the coming years. For the new term, the VRCS will adopt a people-centered approach, with communities serving as the foundation. Digital transformation and innovation will be the drivers of development, and resource mobilization will be a primary strategy to achieve more effective humanitarian efforts. The organization emphasizes anchoring its operations in transparency, integrity, accountability, and openness. All donations will be managed and allocated as intended, with donors entitled to track their use, beneficiaries, and outcomes. Recipients will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on the relevance, fairness, and timeliness of the assistance. For over 80 years, the VRCS has collaborated with social strata at all levels to assist disadvantaged people and support the even distribution of social welfare. Through these activities, the organization has fostered a compassionate and civilized society and contributed to strengthening national unity. The 12th National Congress will hold its formal session on the morning of July 28, featuring an opening ceremony, the presentation of a political report, discussions and remarks by representatives of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and guiding remarks by Party and State leaders. Under Vietnam's one-party system, such organizational reforms and leadership elections serve to reaffirm the role of social organizations in achieving national development goals under the Party's guidance. In recent years, the Vietnamese government has prioritized digitalization as a key national strategy, and the VRCS's reform agenda aligns with this trend. Furthermore, strengthening transparency and accountability is crucial for gaining public trust and promoting more effective social contributions.
