Two Truck Drivers Trapped After Collision on Thang Long Bridge

Hanoi -- Two truck drivers were trapped following a head-on collision on Thang Long Bridge early Tuesday morning, causing a significant traffic jam and temporarily blocking the vital artery. Around 4:43 AM, a truck driven by a 38-year-old man from Khanh Hoa Province, traveling from Hanoi's inner city towards the suburbs, collided head-on with another truck driven by a 35-year-old man from Phu Tho Province moving in the opposite direction. The collision occurred near Phu Thuong Ward on Thang Long Bridge. The cabins of both trucks were severely damaged, trapping the two drivers inside. Approximately 15 minutes after the incident, the Regional Firefighting and Rescue Teams No. 3 and 4 dispatched over 20 officers and personnel, along with specialized equipment, to the scene. They used hydraulic cutters to break open the doors and cabins to rescue the victims. By 6:00 AM, authorities successfully extricated both drivers safely. They were then handed over to medical personnel and transported to E Hospital for treatment. The two damaged trucks occupied a large portion of the bridge, leading to severe traffic congestion. The Road Traffic Police Team No. 6, in coordination with the Phu Phuong Ward Police, conducted an on-site investigation. They are reviewing dashcam footage and surveillance camera recordings from the area to determine the cause of the accident. Traffic diversions were implemented from afar to limit vehicles from accessing the bridge. As of now, the results of alcohol and drug tests for both drivers are pending. Thang Long Bridge spans the Red River, connecting Dong Ngac Ward with Thien Loc commune.
