Regional Forum: Cooperation of South and Southeast Asian Media

The 5th Yunnan International Communication Forum was held in Xishuangbanna Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, the People’s Republic of China on Thursday, gathering over 200 experts and media representatives from 20 South and Southeast Asian countries. At the meeting, member of the Party Standing Committee of Yunnan Province and Information Minister of the Yunnan Provincial Government Ms. Zeng Yan delivered the opening remarks. In his remarks, the Union Minister for information U Htein Lin outlined the importance of friendship between neighboring countries in tackling the escalating challenges across the world. Highlighting Myanmar’s firm stance on mutual respect and understanding, sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Union Minister assured to promote collaboration among neighboring countries and underscored the friendship promotion activities between the Ministry of Information and Yunnan International Communication Center. Next, experts exchanged views on Yunnan Province International Information measures and Chinese Elephant tour introduction were made. Following this, Ecological Civilization Behind China's Wild Elephant Sanctuary report was declared. Later, a discussion titled “International Information governance, efficiency, transformation and coordination in digital era” was conducted. Prior to the meeting, the Union Minister and delegation visited Wild Elephant Valley in Xishuangbanna National Garden. Likewise on Wednesday, the Union Minister and party visited Guanlei Port on the bank of Mekong River in China-Myanmar-Laos border area. The port is an Inland Waterway Port which is crucial for China-Laos-Myanmar-Thailand Mekong River transportation and tourism collaboration and it can handle over 150,000 tons of cargo transportation and over 100,000 of passengers annually.
