Cambodia: Labor Dispute Resolved as Manager Resigns; Workers to Return to Factory Tomorrow

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia has announced the resolution of a labor dispute that arose from inappropriate remarks made by a manager. The dispute occurred at the Lian Fa Factory and Pool Star Factory located in Sen Sok district, Phnom Penh. According to the ministry's announcement, the manager in question has resigned, and the workers are scheduled to return to work on September 9th. Following the dispute, a team from the ministry was immediately dispatched to the factory along National Road No. 5 in Snam Preah village, Bakan district, Kampong Speu province. They worked to mediate the workers' concerns in accordance with legal procedures. Currently, National Road No. 5 has reopened to traffic. The ministry is promoting negotiations between the parties involved, aiming for a just and swift resolution. As Cambodia's economy grows, the number of factory workers has increased. However, disputes concerning working conditions and management behavior are also observed. Light industries, particularly the garment sector, are pillars of the export economy, and compliance with international labor standards is crucial. This incident highlights the importance of protecting workers' rights and maintaining a healthy workplace environment within companies.
