One Victim Found Dead in Grand Polonia Medan House Explosion Debris

A joint SAR team discovered the body of a woman believed to be a victim from the explosion at a luxurious house in the elite Grand Polonia residential area in Medan, North Sumatra, on Tuesday (21/7/2026) early morning. The body was found under the debris on the second floor of the collapsed house. Hery Marantika, Head of the Medan Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas), stated that the victim was found at approximately 02:20 AM Western Indonesian Time and was immediately evacuated to Bhayangkara Hospital. The confirmation of the victim's identity is still in progress. The incident information was received by Basarnas from personnel of the North Sumatra Regional Police's Mobile Brigade at around 18:40 PM on Monday. Following the report, the Basarnas Medan Rescue Team immediately deployed to the scene to commence evacuation operations. Fifteen Basarnas personnel were deployed to the location and, in coordination with other agencies, were divided into three teams. The first team focused on searching for and identifying victims using thermal drones to detect possible survivors under the building materials. The second team conducted search and evacuation using the Area Search Rescue (ASR) 1 method through area sectorization and identification of potential hazards around the site. The cause of the explosion remains unclear. Local media reported that the explosion occurred around 6 PM on Monday, causing severe damage to the house. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the impact on nearby residents and the possibility of further casualties.
