Nghe An Province Establishes School Named After First Minister of Public Security

Nghe An Province in central Vietnam has established a public school for primary, secondary, and high school education named after Tran Quoc Hoan (1916-1986), the first Minister of Public Security. The provincial People's Committee issued the decision for the establishment of Tran Quoc Hoan School. The school is founded by taking over the Hermann Gmeiner Vinh School, a private institution that has since dissolved. Tran Quoc Hoan School will operate as a public educational institution directly under the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, possessing its own legal status, seal, and bank account. Its headquarters are located at No. 30, Hermann Gmeiner Street, Truong Vinh Ward, Nghe An Province. Tran Quoc Hoan is recognized as the individual who laid the foundational groundwork for the organization and operational expertise of Vietnam's public security sector. This initiative is also part of a broader government plan to restructure the SOS Children's Village system. Following a Prime Minister's decision on April 24, 2026, SOS Children's Village Vinh, SOS Children's Village Kindergarten, and Hermann Gmeiner Vinh School, previously part of the SOS Children's Villages Vietnam system, were transferred to Nghe An Province. On May 26, the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee held a ceremony to officially hand over and receive SOS Children's Village Vinh and Hermann Gmeiner Vinh School from SOS Children's Villages Vietnam to local management. SOS Children's Village Vinh will be managed by the Department of Health, while Hermann Gmeiner Vinh School will be directly administered by the Department of Education and Training. At the time of transfer, Hermann Gmeiner Vinh School had approximately 70 full-time staff and 1,600 students. For the 2026-2027 academic year, Tran Quoc Hoan School is slated to enroll 720 students across 15 Grade 10 classes.
