Heavy Rains in Northern and Central Vietnam, Some Areas Exceeding 450mm; National Defense Committee Issues Alert

Heavy rains are forecast to continue across a wide area of northern and north-central Vietnam from the night of September 14th to the 16th. Specifically, some areas north of Nghe An province are expected to experience rainfall exceeding 450mm. In response to this situation, Vietnam's National Defense Committee (Ban Chỉ đạo phòng thủ quốc gia) has instructed 12 northern provinces and cities that are likely to be affected to maintain strict vigilance and implement prompt response measures. Priority is given to minimizing damage from floods, landslides, and infrastructure impacts, and ensuring the safety of residents. Vietnam frequently experiences heavy rainfall during this period due to seasonal monsoons and tropical depressions. Mountainous areas and river basins in the north are particularly vulnerable to sudden floods and landslides. This warning is considered a precautionary measure based on past experiences to prevent potential damage. The government, in coordination with local authorities, will proceed with disseminating weather information, preparing evacuation systems, and inspecting and reinforcing infrastructure.
