Vietnam Uncovers 7 Pig Farms Using Banned Substance, Seizes Over 4,000 Pigs

In Vietnam's southern Dong Nai province, authorities have uncovered seven pig farms illegally using the banned substance Salbutamol for animal feed, leading to the seizure of over 4,100 pigs for further investigation. This was reported by Tuoi Tre newspaper recently. Inspections conducted from July 28 to August 4 found that pigs at these seven farms had positive urine samples for Salbutamol, a substance prohibited in animal husbandry for promoting growth. Authorities have collected additional samples for laboratory analysis. If the results confirm the use of banned substances, the involved farms will face fines and strict legal measures. Specialized officials explained that Salbutamol is illegally used by some traders to make pigs gain more meat, reduce fat, and appear more attractive for higher prices. However, residues of this substance in pork can pose health risks to consumers. Authorities have confirmed that, as of now, no use of banned substances has been found in traditional pig farms in Dong Nai province.
