Vietnam and Lithuania Sign MOU for Energy Technology Cooperation

A significant step has been taken in the energy sector in Vietnam's Van Phong Economic Zone, Khanh Hoa province. On July 28, Vietnam's KN Energy and Lithuania's INDEL Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the transfer of gas storage technology. The signing ceremony was witnessed by a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania and representatives from the Lithuanian Embassy in Vietnam. This cooperation focuses on a key energy infrastructure project planned for the Van Phong Economic Zone, aiming to introduce advanced gas storage technology. In recent years, Vietnam has been promoting the modernization and diversification of its energy infrastructure to meet the increasing energy demand accompanying its economic growth. The Van Phong Economic Zone, in particular, is strategically located and positioned as a core hub for the nation's marine economy, with energy sector development being a crucial pillar supporting its "take-off." The signing of this MOU signifies Vietnam's proactive approach to adopting international technology as part of its state-led economic development strategy under its one-party system. International cooperation in the energy sector, especially in gas storage technology, is expected to contribute to strengthening energy security and stabilizing the domestic energy supply network. Lithuania, as a member of the European Union (EU), has expertise that could facilitate the enhancement of Vietnam's technological capabilities in the energy sector and its alignment with international standards. The Vietnamese government views energy development as a vital foundation for economic growth and has a vision to develop Khanh Hoa province into a national center for the marine economy. Plans for a large-scale energy industrial complex in the Van Phong Economic Zone are also progressing, and this technological cooperation can be seen as a concrete move towards realizing that vision.
