Super Air Jet Launches New Routes from Bandung, Achieves 90% Load Factor

Super Air Jet has begun opening direct flights from Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung to several cities across Indonesia. A total of six new routes will be served gradually. The six routes include Bandung-Medan (Kualanamu), Bandung-Bali (Denpasar), Bandung-Pekanbaru, Bandung-Makassar, Bandung-Pontianak, and Bandung-Balikpapan. Flights for Bandung-Medan, Bandung-Bali, and Bandung-Pekanbaru commenced operations on Friday, September 18, 2026. Meanwhile, the Bandung-Makassar and Bandung-Pontianak routes started service on Saturday, September 19, followed by Bandung-Balikpapan on Tuesday, September 22. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the presence of these routes is a positive response to the reactivation of Husein Sastranegara Airport as a gateway for air travel from Bandung. He believes the Bandung-Medan and Bandung-Denpasar routes hold significant potential due to high demand from Bandung residents. Medan is considered an important city with connectivity to Bandung, also serving as a transit point for passengers traveling to Denpasar. Farhan sees Super Air Jet's entry as complementing the previous steps taken by state-owned airlines Garuda Indonesia and Citilink in resuming flights from Husein Sastranegara Airport. He expressed happiness that Bandung residents can now connect with two important cities outside Java, and was moved to hear the sound of jet engines flying again at the airport. Captain Daniel Putut Kuncoro Adi, President Director of Lion Group, affirmed their readiness to support the resurgence of flights from Husein Sastranegara Airport. He highlighted Bandung as a key choice for Lion Group to restore flight connectivity from the city, mentioning that the group has sufficient fleet to support the opening of these routes from Bandung. Following the Medan and Denpasar services, flights to Pontianak, Balikpapan, and Makassar will also be launched. According to Captain Daniel, the load factor for the Medan-Bandung and Bandung-Denpasar flights has reached approximately 90%. "Our load factor is 90%, both from Medan to Bandung and from Bandung to Denpasar," he stated. Captain Daniel also noted that Husein Sastranegara Airport has great potential for development if it regains its international airport status. He indicated that the airport's technical capacity allows for serving up to around 25 flights per day, depending on operational arrangements and service hours. "If the airport becomes a 24-hour international airport, its capacity is already good," he added.
