International Conference on AI and Data Science Held in Da Nang
The APWeb-WAIM 2026 international conference, focusing on web technologies, data science, and AI, convened in Da Nang, Vietnam. Over 100 researchers from 12 countries gathered to discuss the latest research findings and future prospects.
The international scientific conference APWeb-WAIM 2026, focusing on web technologies, data science, and artificial intelligence (AI), commenced on September 7 in Da Nang, Vietnam. The conference, running until September 9, marks its 10th edition and the first time it is being held in Vietnam. Over 100 researchers from 12 countries and territories, including France, Greece, China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong (China), and Vietnam, participated in the event. A total of 162 research presentations were delivered both online and offline, with a focus on the latest trends in big data, databases, large language models (LLMs), machine learning, recommendation systems, and data security. Researchers at the conference discussed the role of data science in the development of AI systems. Many studies presented aimed to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and safety of AI systems through data organization, querying, analysis, and utilization. With the increasing application of AI across various sectors, the research presented seeks to leverage AI and data to solve real-world problems in healthcare, finance, education, digital government, cybersecurity, transportation, and manufacturing. The importance of accuracy, verifiability, and reliability in AI systems was also emphasized. Three keynote speeches were delivered at the conference, covering topics such as graph computing, vector databases, and data systems for AI. Professor Hai Jin from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, presented on a unified approach to graph computing: From Foundations to Systems and Beyond. His research addresses a unified approach to graph computing from foundations to systems, aiming to efficiently process complex structured data and enhance the scalability of AI systems. The presentation also raised the issue of connecting data processing, AI, and scientific computing on a single platform. Professor Xiaofang Zhou from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, China, presented "Advanced Similarity Query Processing in Vector Databases," focusing on processing similarity queries in vector databases, a technology used in many AI applications. Professor Gao Cong from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, presented "From AI4DB to Databases for AI: Rethinking Data Systems in the LLM Era," addressing the changes in data systems in the context of the development of large language models (LLMs). The topics covered in the three keynote speeches indicate that AI research is expanding from model development to building infrastructure and data systems that support information processing, retrieval, and utilization. Dr. Trần Ngọc Tuấn, Vice Rector of FPT University, part of FPT Corporation, stated that education needs to create opportunities for learners to research, experiment, fail, learn, and try again. According to him, international conferences like APWeb-WAIM provide opportunities for students and lecturers to experience, connect, learn, and access new perspectives and research. APWeb-WAIM is an international scientific conference focused on research and academic exchange in the fields of web technology, data, databases, and AI. Holding the conference for the first time in Vietnam creates an opportunity for the domestic research community to connect with international scientists, exchange research results, and expand cooperation in data science and digital technology. FPT University, in collaboration with SIGAPP French Chapter and with the support of Springer, organized APWeb-WAIM 2026. The event provides an opportunity for lecturers, students, and researchers in Vietnam to access works, research trends, and international experts in the fields of web, data, and AI. For FPT University, co-organizing the conference helps its lecturers, students, and researchers connect with the international academic community while staying updated on current research directions in the technology field.
