University Student Activist Urges Parliament and Government to Finalize Asset Confiscation Bill

A university student activist in Jakarta has issued a message urging the Parliament (DPR) and the government to expedite the finalization of the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset). This bill is positioned as a crucial piece of legislation enabling the confiscation of assets obtained through corruption and illicit means, aiming to improve the nation's financial health and restore public trust. However, the prolonged stagnation of its deliberation in Parliament has become a target of criticism. The activists pointed out that the delay in the bill hinders the nation's efforts to eradicate corruption and fails to meet public expectations. They strongly advocate for the prompt enactment of the bill to eradicate illicit wealth accumulation and establish a transparent governance system. Corruption remains a serious social problem in Indonesia, negatively impacting the lives of its citizens and economic development. The Asset Confiscation Bill is considered one of the key legal instruments to address these issues.
