Cambodia Promotes Environmental Protection on World Clean Day, Fostering Community Awareness

Kampong Cham province, Cambodia, observed the 9th World Clean Day on September 18th, fostering environmental beautification and conservation efforts across the community. The event, held at the Prasat Sambour district school grounds, saw the participation of 325 individuals, including provincial officials, members of the Cambodian Federation of Youth Unions, and the general public. Mr. Chea Vanchhan, Deputy Governor of Kampong Cham Province, lauded the active participation in cleaning public roads and residential areas, stating it reflects solidarity and commitment to maintaining environmental hygiene and aesthetics. He emphasized that this activity serves as an opportunity to raise public awareness about the impact of increasing plastic waste on the environment and the planet, and to encourage broader participation in reducing and managing plastic waste. Mr. Oung Buntheoun, Director of the Provincial Department of Environment, highlighted that this event demonstrates the involvement of all parties in maintaining environmental hygiene and contributes to making Cambodia cleaner and greener. Deputy Governor Chea Vanchhan appealed to all citizens to actively participate in maintaining hygiene, the environment, and aesthetics in their homes, communities, schools, workplaces, and public places. He urged that each individual's contribution, however small, is a crucial part of creating a clean, green, and healthy environment. He encouraged personal initiatives such as refraining from littering in public areas, properly sorting and disposing of waste, reducing the use of single-use plastics, and participating in regular environmental clean-ups. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of making this day's activities a daily habit, not just a one-time event, to ensure cleaner, more orderly communities and a good environment for future generations. "One piece of garbage that we do not throw away is a step towards protecting our environment," the deputy governor told the citizens. He called for collective action, stating, "Let's clean today and build good habits every day" to achieve a sustainable environment and good health for all.
