SUV Flips After Red-Light Runner at Pattaya Intersection, Three Injured

PATTAYA, Thailand – Three people were injured after a Honda City allegedly ran a red light and collided with a Mazda SUV at a major intersection on Sukhumvit Road in North Pattaya early Friday morning. The crash occurred at about 3:50 a.m. at the traffic-light intersection on Sukhumvit Road. Pattaya City Police and Sawang Boriboon rescuers were called to the scene. A white Mazda SUV was found overturned in the middle of the road with significant damage. Its 24-year-old driver, Pheempat Changmai, suffered minor injuries and was given first aid by rescuers. Nearby, a black Honda City had come to a stop in the roadway with severe damage to its front end. The 59-year-old driver, Nipon Sornsanam, and two passengers were injured, bringing the preliminary number of injured people to three. All were treated at the scene before being taken to nearby hospitals. Pheempat told police that he had been waiting at the red light before proceeding normally when the signal turned green. He alleged that the Honda City was travelling at high speed and crossed the intersection against the red light, causing the collision. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the intersection and questioning both drivers and witnesses to establish exactly how the crash occurred before taking further legal action.
