Vietnam to Enhance Landslide Warning Capacity Amidst Frequent Disasters

Following the devastating landslide in Nu Village, Lao Cai province in 2024, and a series of serious landslide incidents in the northern and central regions, Vietnam has identified the enhancement of early natural disaster forecasting and warning capabilities as an urgent priority. There is a growing recognition that a decrease in typhoons does not equate to an absence of natural disaster risks. Urban development in mountainous areas, in particular, requires more careful planning from the perspective of adapting to climate change. The government is continuing its efforts to make disaster prevention and response activities more professional, systematic, and effective. As part of this, the policy is to leverage the latest technologies in disaster forecasting and early warning systems to improve the capacity to respond to floods and landslides. The aim is to strengthen comprehensive disaster response capabilities by synchronizing solutions for flood control, landslide prevention, disaster response and mitigation, and early flood forecasting.
