A tragic accident at a pig farm in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam, resulted in the deaths of three workers and injuries to four others. The incident occurred during repairs to a wastewater treatment tank, with rescuers also falling victim to electrocution and gas asphyxiation. Authorities are investigating the cause and corporate responsibility.

Three workers died and four others were injured in a serious labor accident at a large-scale pig farm operated by Dabaco in Thanh Hoa province on the evening of July 18. The incident occurred at a wastewater treatment tank within the pig farm facilities of Dabaco Thanh Hoa Co., Ltd. in Thach Quang commune. Around 5:30 PM, one worker, while repairing a filter in the tank, was electrocuted and fell into the deep pit, showing signs of asphyxiation. Other workers who noticed the situation rushed to rescue him but also began exhibiting similar symptoms, leading to a chain reaction of accidents. A total of seven workers were involved. They were taken to Cam Thuy General Hospital for emergency treatment. By the early morning of July 19, three workers, including the one who was electrocuted, were confirmed dead from electrocution and gas asphyxiation. Of the four injured, two severe cases were transferred to higher-level hospitals, while the remaining two are recovering at Cam Thuy General Hospital. Mr. Le Huy Duong, Chairman of the Thach Quang Commune People's Committee, described the incident as a "particularly serious labor accident at an enterprise." He stated that the direct causes, hazardous factors at the scene, and the responsibilities of involved organizations and individuals will be determined after the authorities complete their on-site inspection, appraisal, and investigation. Currently, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police have cordoned off the scene and are investigating the incident. Commune authorities have instructed Dabaco Thanh Hoa Co., Ltd. to temporarily suspend operations in the accident area, erect barricades and warning signs, and preserve all records and documents for the investigation. They have also urged the company to promptly rectify the consequences and ensure the rights of the victims and their families. Dabaco Thanh Hoa Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of Dabaco Vietnam Group, engaged in breeding and commercial pig farming projects in several communes of Thanh Hoa. The project received approval from the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee in 2021, with a total investment of over 770 billion VND (approximately $30 million USD), covering an area of over 50 hectares, and a planned capacity of 5,600 breeding pigs and over 158,000 commercial pigs annually. The company began introducing pigs for farming in October 2022.
