Vietnam Focuses on Strengthening US Ties, Deepening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Vietnam places great importance on developing its relations with the US in a stable and long-term manner under the framework of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aligning with the interests and aspirations of the peoples of both countries. Beyond the growth in trade volume, the increasing depth of economic ties between the two nations is particularly noteworthy. Do Ngoc Hung, Trade Counsellor and head of the Vietnam Trade Office in the US, highlighted the deepening economic connections. Furthermore, Overseas Vietnamese (OV) entrepreneurs are seen as a valuable source of knowledge, science-technology, management expertise, finance, investment, and international relations, capable of contributing to the homeland's development. There are also calls for the US to continue supporting Vietnam in addressing war consequences, implementing community support programs, and tackling environmental issues to improve living conditions in affected areas. In addition to strengthening ties with the US, Vietnam is also working towards its trade goals with Türkiye. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam aims to increase bilateral trade to $4 billion by having Türkiye recognize Vietnam's market economy status and by opening respective markets and reducing trade barriers. Regarding relations with Canada, it is expected that the political momentum generated by high-level exchanges can be translated into durable cooperation mechanisms in science, technology, and innovation. This could move beyond academic exchanges and individual projects to become a substantive pillar, generating concrete products, businesses, and economic value for both countries. Domestically, the Party and State are determined to persistently address shortcomings while encouraging scientific research and innovation to develop practical and effective products. Vietnam is also focused on strengthening its relationship with the United Nations. The attendance of General Secretary and President To Lam at the UN General Assembly High-Level Debate is considered particularly significant as Vietnam and the UN approach the 50th anniversary of their relations. UN officials noted that Vietnam's presence consistently reflects a development and foreign policy vision that places peace, stability, security, and the well-being of the people at its core.
