Cambodia's Ministry of Information Emphasizes Role in Media Oversight and Public Relations

Minister of Information Net Pheaktra has emphasized that the core functions of the Ministry of Information are to lead and manage the media and audiovisual sectors, as well as to coordinate public relations with relevant ministries and institutions. The minister shared this view on the morning of September 18, 2026, during a lecture titled "Organizational Structure, Roles, and Responsibilities of the Ministry of Information" to approximately 400 leaders and trainees at the Command and Staff College in Kampong Speu province. Mr. Pheaktra explained that the Ministry of Information is responsible for ensuring media order, freedom of the press, and freedom of publication, encompassing both traditional and new media. He added that the ministry provides and disseminates information to citizens both domestically and internationally, and manages information content and advertising in accordance with the law. "The Ministry of Information plays the role of the government's staff in public relations, information management, and the information space. The ministry cooperates with competent institutions to contribute to maintaining information security, digital security, and national security," stated the minister. Other important tasks of the Ministry of Information include promoting the modernization of information and public opinion management mechanisms, as well as preparing strategic plans for information dissemination, according to Mr. Pheaktra. This lecture is considered highly significant in the context of the rapidly evolving media sector, where digital technology and modern media are increasingly important. Through the sharing of knowledge and experience, the trainees gained a clearer understanding of the work of the Ministry of Information and the significant contribution of the media sector in serving society and state institutions.
