Vietnam Deploys More Peacekeeping Units, Enhancing International Presence

Vietnam is strengthening its participation in UN peacekeeping operations, with Rotation 8 of the Level-2 Field Hospital and Rotation 5 of the Engineering Unit recently departing for their respective missions. The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations was asked to strengthen management and command of personnel serving overseas, draw lessons to improve selection and training, and develop qualified personnel to apply for professional, command, management, and advisory positions at UN headquarters and its peacekeeping missions. The two officers were selected based on their political and moral qualities, professional competence, military expertise, foreign-language proficiency, health, and ability to work in an international environment. After more than 12 years of participation in UN peacekeeping operations, the Ministry of National Defence has deployed nearly 1,400 personnel from the Vietnam People’s Army to missions, UN headquarters, and liaison offices in Belgium. Regular exchanges between the Vietnamese and Lao Parties serve not only as vivid evidence of the close and trusted ties between the two Parties, but also as a forum for sharing theoretical achievements and practical experience in building and improving political systems to meet new development requirements.
