Kep Province Encourages Farmers to Raise Livestock for Household Income and Reduced Imports

In Kep Province, southern Cambodia, Governor Som Piseth led a delegation on July 22, 2026, to inspect a model pig farm in Phnum Lav village, Pong Tuek commune, Damnak Chang'aeur district. The farm was lauded for its adoption of modern farming techniques, ensuring food hygiene and safety, and effective environmental management. Governor Piseth expressed high praise for the efforts of the model farm's owners, who have embraced modern animal husbandry techniques. He stated that expanding aquaculture and animal husbandry in the region is a crucial priority policy aimed at increasing farmers' income and improving their livelihoods. Furthermore, he emphasized that this initiative will ensure the supply of fresh, safe pork to markets within the province and surrounding areas, thereby reducing the need for external meat imports and creating local employment opportunities. In conjunction with the inspection, the Governor instructed the provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, as well as local authorities, to continue providing technical support, including animal health care (vaccinations) and facilitating the transfer of best practices to other farmers in the community. This collective effort aims to maintain food security and foster stronger household economic development.
