Cambodia Adopts Eurocodes for Construction Sector, Boosting Investor Confidence
EuroCham Cambodia's Real Estate and Construction Committee highlights the adoption of Eurocodes, expecting them to enhance construction quality and safety, thereby boosting investor confidence. The committee has been instrumental in policy recommendations through government dialogue, supporting Cambodia's economic growth.
Cambodia is set to enhance its construction sector's standards with the adoption of Eurocodes, a comprehensive set of structural design standards mandated in the European Union. These codes ensure a unified and safety-verified basis for structural design, aiming to uphold the highest quality and safety in construction. Ross Wheble, Vice-Chairperson of EuroCham Cambodia's Real Estate and Construction Committee and Country Head of Knight Frank Cambodia, has been a key advocate for this initiative. He expressed that the adoption of Eurocodes is expected to significantly improve the overall quality of construction projects within Cambodia. Furthermore, it is anticipated to increase planning transparency and bolster investor confidence, thereby attracting more foreign direct investment (FDI) into the nation. Wheble, drawing from his experience in the UK's mature and highly regulated market, found motivation in the opportunity to shape industry policy in Cambodia. He highlighted that EuroCham provides a platform for high-level dialogue with the government, and contributing to the advancement of construction standards in Cambodia brings him immense satisfaction. The Real Estate and Construction Committee represents a sector that is a significant contributor to Cambodia's GDP growth, attracting numerous regional and global stakeholders. The committee's success is attributed to EuroCham's strong advocacy efforts and its engaging signature events, such as the Tall Building Forum and the Real Estate & Construction Forum, which are well-attended by both local and international participants. The implementation of Eurocodes marks a crucial step for Cambodia in aligning with international construction benchmarks, promoting safer and more reliable infrastructure development. This move is poised to contribute to the country's sustained economic growth and enhance its competitiveness in the global market.
