Chiang Rai Teen in Coma After Illegal U-Turn Collision

A horrific motorcycle crash in Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai, has left a 15-year-old girl in critical condition. The incident occurred on Highway 118, the Chiang Rai-Chiang Mai route. The teenager, Sutthida Puangkhumyod, was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her 14-year-old friend. They were en route to a school field trip when a white sedan suddenly executed an illegal U-turn directly in front of them, crossing double solid lines. The crash took place near the Pa Ngiw fresh market in Wiang Pa Pao District. Police stated that the two-lane road is a strictly no-turn zone. The 56-year-old driver of the Toyota sedan reportedly slowed down before sharply turning into the path of the motorcycle. This abrupt maneuver left the young riders with no time to safely brake. The motorcycle collided directly with the side of the turning sedan, resulting in severe injuries for all three individuals involved. Rescue workers promptly transported all injured parties to nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment. The 15-year-old girl sustained severe head trauma and underwent immediate, life-saving brain surgery. She remains in a critical coma at Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital. The 14-year-old boy driving the motorcycle suffered a severely broken leg and is currently recovering under close medical observation. The sedan driver also received treatment for her injuries at Wiang Pa Pao Hospital. Police are meticulously reviewing CCTV footage to gather definitive legal evidence and hold the responsible party fully accountable for this tragic highway accident.
