On the evening of July 4th, Deputy Governor of Phnom Penh and other officials attempted to mediate and find new selling spots. However, some vendors remain dissatisfied, citing the new locations as cramped and insufficient for all to operate. These new spots are reportedly on the same road where some vendors previously sold goods at night. The initial phase of the eviction is for the installation of a new drainage system and road construction. Authorities have stated that vendors will be allowed to return to their original locations after the work is completed. The red soil market area, originally a legally invested parking lot, evolved into a space with stalls and tents, with some reportedly sold for tens of thousands of dollars. Conversely, vendors operating within the legal boundaries of the Orussey Market have expressed support for the authorities' actions, citing that illegal street vending has negatively impacted their businesses.
