Cambodian Foreign Minister to Address UN General Assembly

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn will lead Cambodia’s delegation to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the foreign ministry said Tuesday. Sokhonn will attend the General Debate from Sept 22–28, held under the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.” He is expected to deliver Cambodia’s national statement outlining the country’s positions on regional and global issues. According to the ministry, Sokhonn will stress the importance of multilateralism and call for a stronger, more effective UN system to address international challenges. He is also expected to highlight Cambodia’s development priorities, including its commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth. On the sidelines, Sokhonn will hold bilateral meetings with foreign counterparts focusing on relations, peace and security, and sustainable development. The delegation’s visit began Sept 22, following a statement issued in Phnom Penh a day earlier.
