Sixth-grade student missing for two days found dead in North Dagon

YANGON – A sixth-grade student residing in Dagon Township (North), Yangon, who had been missing for two days, was found dead in a pond on June 10, having been brutally murdered, according to family members. The deceased has been identified as Maung Min Khant Zaw, a 13-year-old sixth-grade student, who went missing from his home in North Dagon at around 4:30 PM on June 8. Despite extensive searches by his family and the local community, his body was discovered with injuries in Kanbaung, Ward 38, North Dagon, around 6:00 AM on June 10. “My nephew was such a gentle child, how could anyone do such a cruel thing to him? My nephew, your fate is so tragic. May you never encounter such misfortune in your next life. Your body has been transported to North Okkalapa General Hospital for examination,” wrote his uncle on social media. Family members confirmed that the student’s body was buried at 1:30 PM on June 10. Regarding the student's disappearance, the family had filed a report with the police, conducted searches within the neighborhood, and sought help on social media (Facebook), but he was ultimately found dead. Since the military coup, law and order have completely broken down in major cities, including Yangon, leading to daily disappearances of people of all ages. Furthermore, local residents report that under the military junta’s conscription law, people are being apprehended on the streets and extorted for money. Regarding the current urban situation, a mother from Yangon told the Ayeyarwaddy Times, “The times are so bad that we can’t even let our children go anywhere alone. We can’t let them go out by themselves. Everyone, children and adults alike, lives in fear for their safety.” Similarly, a few days ago, in Pyinmana, Naypyidaw, a neighbor entered a house with a knife and attacked a mother and child. The mother died, and the child sustained severe injuries and is currently hospitalized, according to a social welfare organization. Photo – Social Media
