Vietnam's Newest Airline Launches Route to Thailand, Expanding Southeast Asian Reach
Vietnam's newest airline has launched a route to Bangkok, Thailand. The carrier views Thailand as a key hub for promoting tourism and attracting international transit passengers, strengthening its presence in the Southeast Asian market.
Vietnam's newest airline has launched a new route to Bangkok, Thailand, as part of its expansion in Southeast Asia. La Vinh Nam, the airline's Deputy Commercial Director, stated at the recent launch event for the Bangkok route that the full-service carrier, owned by Vietnam's Sun Group, views Thailand as an important partner for promoting two-way tourism and attracting international transit passengers, rather than as a competitor. The airline's expansion efforts include launching international flights from Phu Quoc, which was recently recognized by Expedia as a top island destination for 2026. The airline also operates routes linking Hai Phong with Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc, signaling its ambition to race from its Phu Quoc base onto the global stage. Vietnam's government has consistently prioritized tourism as a vital sector for economic growth, especially under its one-party political system. The expansion of international air connectivity is seen as a direct contributor to foreign exchange earnings and job creation. Therefore, new airline ventures and the expansion of existing routes often receive implicit or explicit policy support. The strategic move to strengthen ties with Thailand aligns with Vietnam's broader objective of enhancing its economic internationalization and integration into regional and global travel flows.
