Luxembourg Reiterates Support for Cambodia's Tourism Workforce Development

PHNOM PENH, Aug 7, 2026 (KPT) — Luxembourg has reaffirmed its commitment to helping Cambodia build a skilled tourism and hospitality workforce, pledging continued support for training and human resource development as the two countries deepen cooperation in the sector. The pledge came during talks between Tourism Minister Hout Hak and Thomas Lammar, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Luxembourg to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, who oversees development cooperation with Cambodia. Hak thanked Luxembourg for its longstanding support, particularly its interest in the Ministry’s Vocational School of Tourism (VST), which has drawn attention from two previous high‑level Luxembourg delegations. He said the meeting underscored both countries’ shared commitment to expanding practical cooperation in tourism while strengthening people‑to‑people ties. The minister briefed the delegation on Cambodia’s political and economic progress, citing a stable environment and government campaigns such as “Cambodia: Kingdom of Wonder, Feel the Warmth” and “Visit Cambodia in the Green Season.” He said Cambodia is working with airlines, operators, content creators and international media to boost connectivity and attract visitors. Lammar said tourism is a priority under the Cambodia‑Luxembourg Indicative Cooperation Programme, reaffirming Luxembourg’s readiness to support workforce development in line with international standards. Hak urged Luxembourg to further promote Cambodia’s destinations, organize familiarization trips for travel industry and media, encourage investment in the tourism sector and expand exchanges to increase visitor flows. The meeting marks a new chapter in Cambodia‑Luxembourg tourism cooperation, following decades of diplomatic ties. Relations were strengthened by the March–April 2025 royal visit of Crown Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel, during which both sides pledged to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
