Heavy Rains Continue in Northern and Central Vietnam, Meteorological Agency Issues Warning

Heavy rains are expected to continue in the northern and North Central regions of Vietnam from September 17th to 18th. According to forecasters at the National Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting Center, rainfall is then expected to gradually decrease and shift southwards. Due to the influence of the subtropical high-pressure system expanding westward and causing strong convergence, heavy rains are anticipated to persist in the northern mountainous and plain areas, including Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, and Phu Tho, as well as in the southern parts of Lao Cai, Son La, Tuyen Quang, and Thai Nguyen provinces. Rainfall amounts are generally expected to range from 40-80mm, with localized areas potentially exceeding 150mm, primarily during the night of September 17th and the morning of September 18th. A gradual decrease in rainfall is forecast from the afternoon of September 18th. Vietnam, while continuing its economic growth, is also one of the countries highly susceptible to extreme weather events due to climate change. The northern regions, in particular, are prone to monsoon influences and are constantly exposed to the risks of heavy rain and floods. This forecast may impact agriculture, infrastructure, and daily life for residents. The government is working to strengthen disaster prevention measures and disseminate weather information.
