Vietnam, Malaysia Forge Deeper Ties in Halal Market

Vietnam's Halal certification authority has established direct cooperation with Malaysia’s Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM). The strategic cooperation is expected to be strengthened through government-to-government (G2G) cooperation as a foundation, before expanding into business-to-business (B2B) linkages, thereby helping Vietnamese businesses to participate more deeply in the international Halal ecosystem. Vietnam sees Malaysia, where Muslims constitute a significant portion of the population, as a crucial gateway to the Halal market. This collaboration is part of Vietnam's broader strategy to capitalize on its strengths in agriculture and food processing, facilitating Halal certification to boost exports. The Communist Party of Vietnam places economic growth as a top priority, actively seeking foreign investment and promoting exports. Expanding trade with Islamic nations is identified as a key avenue for new growth. Achieving international Halal certification standards is vital for improving the global competitiveness of Vietnamese products, making the partnership with Malaysia a significant stride forward.
