Da Nang Launches 'Digital Summer' to Foster Smart City Initiatives
Da Nang, Vietnam, has launched the 'Digital Summer 2026' event, aiming to enhance citizen services and build a smart city through digital transformation. The initiative includes support for SMEs and individual businesses to adopt digital technologies, accelerating the digitalization of administration, economy, and society.
The 'Digital Summer 2026' event officially opened in Da Nang, a major city in central Vietnam, on August 8th. Under the theme 'Joining Hands for Digital Transformation - Building a Smart City,' the event marks a significant step towards deeply integrating digital technology into public life and steadily realizing the goal of building a strong digital government, digital economy, and digital society at the grassroots level. Da Nang is actively implementing digital transformation support policies for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Furthermore, the city is piloting initiatives to support individual businesses in their digital transformation, establishing a system to ensure diverse entities can benefit from digitalization. The city is also gathering feedback to refine its plans concerning digital transformation, innovation, science, and technology. These efforts are part of Vietnam's national digitalization strategy, promoted under the one-party system of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and are expected to serve as a new driver for economic growth. Particularly for Vietnam, which has a complex relationship with China, strengthening domestic industrial competitiveness and fostering technological innovation are increasingly important from the perspectives of economic independence and national security.
