Indonesia Pushes Local Food System Strengthening in Remote Areas

Indonesia's National Agency for Policy Research and Development (BSKDN), under the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), is promoting the strengthening of food systems in the nation's frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions. This initiative is part of the 'MBG (Maju Bersama Garudaku)' program aimed at enhancing food security and revitalizing local economies. The effort focuses on building sustainable food supply chains, particularly in the 3T regions which are geographically isolated and have underdeveloped infrastructure. By utilizing local agricultural and livestock products and completing the process from production to distribution and consumption within the region, the aim is to reduce external dependency and stabilize food prices. Furthermore, it is expected to contribute to increased income and job creation for local residents. BSKDN plans to collaborate with local governments to support the adoption of food production technologies tailored to regional conditions and provide training opportunities for small-scale farmers.
