Vietnam and US localities strengthen cooperation across multiple fields

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung called on the state of Minnesota to continue supporting the Vietnamese community residing there, encourage local businesses to expand investment and operations in Vietnam, and promote sister-city and sister-province partnerships between Minnesota and Vietnamese localities. The request comes as Vietnam and the US seek to deepen cooperation in economic, trade, and energy sectors. Vietnam has been encouraging US firms to expand their investment, particularly in high-tech sectors. This is part of Vietnam's strategy to attract advanced technologies and upgrade its industrial structure amidst its sustained economic growth. As a socialist republic with a one-party system, Vietnam has achieved remarkable economic growth in recent years, driven by foreign direct investment (FDI), export-oriented industries, and an expanding domestic market. Its relationship with the US has developed rapidly since the end of the Cold War, with the deepening of a comprehensive strategic partnership being a key pillar of Vietnam's foreign policy. While China remains an important economic partner, historical and geopolitical complexities exist. Vietnam is actively seeking to balance its foreign relations by strengthening ties with Western countries, including the US, partly in response to issues such as the South China Sea. Enhancing cooperation with Minnesota exemplifies Vietnam's multifaceted diplomatic strategy.
