Can Tho City's Administrative Center Relocation Proposal Faces Scrutiny

A proposal to relocate Can Tho City's administrative center from its current location to Ngã Bảy, as part of a draft urban development plan for the 2050-2075 period, has garnered significant attention. In response to this idea, a considerable number of experts, researchers, and retired officials have voiced their opinions, urging careful consideration. They emphasize the need to meticulously assess the cost implications, the overall efficiency of the relocation, and the historical value of the Tây Đô region, which boasts nearly 300 years of history. Can Tho City serves as an economic, cultural, and transportation hub for the Mekong Delta region, and the placement of its administrative center is deeply intertwined with the region's overall development strategy. Under Vietnam's one-party system, such large-scale urban planning decisions are often advanced by local authorities, taking into account directives from the central government.
