Cambodia Summons "Guru Tua" Influencer Group Over Content Affecting Medical Ethics and Social Morals

The Ministry of Information in Cambodia has issued a summons for the social media influencer group "Guru Tua" to appear on August 3rd for guidance, citing their production of content that allegedly infringes upon the dignity of the medical profession and social morals. In a letter dated July 31st, the General Directorate of Information and Audiovisual Media of the Ministry of Information stated that video content produced and disseminated by the group on social media has severely impacted the honor, dignity, and professional integrity of medical personnel, as well as negatively influenced social morals respected by the general public. To ensure information order and prevent negative impacts on the public, the Ministry requires the page administrators and performing team of "Guru Tua" to report to the General Directorate of Information and Audiovisual Media at the Ministry of Information at 2:00 PM on August 3rd to receive guidance and orientation. This is not the first time that this group of content creators and performers on social media has committed repeated errors. For instance, recently, the "Guru Tua" performing group produced and disseminated content on their social media depicting themselves wearing medical uniforms and pushing hospital beds, with content that was severely discriminatory towards AIDS patients. Minister of Information, Mr. Net Pheaktra, on July 31st, during the opening ceremony of a workshop disseminating legal documents in the information and audiovisual sector, issued a strict order to the competent officials of the General Directorate of Information and Audiovisual Media to take immediate measures to find and summon the video content production group "Guru Tua" to sign a contract for guidance and education.
